JOB POSITION #144: TRUCK DRIVER / ASPHALT LABORER

HIRING RANGE: $18.0495/hourly

DAYS WORKED: Monday - Friday

HOURS WORKED: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Works under the direct supervision of the Streets Foreman.

Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department.

Operates dump trucks to haul asphalt, dirt, trash, rocks, salt, sand and water, and other designated materials.

Performs street paving duties, including spreading and compacting hot mix asphalt and road base.

Maintains dirt roads by watering for blade operator and may run blade if needed.

Cleans out storm drains, ditches and manholes.

Loads rock, salt, pit run and sand onto dump trucks with a loader.

Operates snow control equipment.

Operates steel wheel rollers, rubber tire rollers, crack sealing machine, loaders, water trucks and similar equipment.

Works with asphalt, crack sealing material, concrete, salt, liquid calcium chloride, liquid magnesium chloride, oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, herbicides, paint, traffic control signs, trash, weeds, tree limbs, dirt, rock, sand and gravel.

Operates and works around noisy equipment, vibrating equipment.

Frequent exposure to gasoline, diesel, paint and asphalt fumes.

Completes daily reports, time sheets, after hours on call sheets and storm drain sheets.

Performs heavy manual labor duties out-of-doors in extreme weather conditions as needed.

Provides minor equipment maintenance such as greasing suspension, checking hydraulic/brake fluid, oil, water, transmission and air pressure levels and cleans vehicles.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists in setting up and cleaning of job sites including traffic control devices.

Cleans weeds, trash, and other debris from work site.

Performs custodial tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Extensive background checks required.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Work experience in a closely related construction field preferred.

Valid New Mexico Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement required with acceptable driving record for past three years is required at the time of hire.

As a requirement the candidate will need to successfully pass the Entry Level Driving Training (ELDT) course to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License. Failure to obtain the required Commercial Driver's License within the time frame set by the Streets Superintendent will result in termination of employment.

Ability to operate all types of city trucks for specific job site requirements such as unloading hot mix into a moving lay down machine.

Ability to properly operate equipment such as a grader, front end loader, rubber tire/steel rollers, rubber crack sealer, router, chain saw, jackhammer, tamper and air compressor.

Experience operating dump trucks, water trucks, crack sealing machine, jack-hammers, steel wheel and rubber tire rollers, vibrating skid plate tampers, hank picks and shovels, chain saws, weed eaters, brooms, rakes, pitch forks, pruners and loaders.

One year of work experience in a construction related field involving the operation of trucks or other related light automotive equipment, or equivalent vocational training courses.

Working knowledge to do minor vehicle maintenance.

Knowledge of proper traffic control at construction sites including flagging and placement of barricades and cones.

Knowledge of traffic laws.

Ability to do manual labor such as shoveling, raking and some lifting.

Knowledge of asphalt material specifications.

Must have a telephone at residence.

Must be willing and able to be on 24 hour call.

Must be able to be at the MOC within 30 minutes after receiving call.

Ability to properly operate equipment such as a grader, front end loader, rubber tire/steel rollers, rubber crack sealer, router, chain saw, jackhammer, tamper and air compressor. Experience operating dump trucks, water trucks, crack sealing machine, jack-hammers, steel wheel and rubber tire rollers, vibrating skid plate tampers, hank picks and shovels, chain saws, weed eaters, brooms, rakes, pitch forks, pruners, and loaders.
