The Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity (GMHFH) ReStore in Williston is seeking a Donations Truck Driver to support its mission of helping local families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.


Summary:

The Donations Ambassador is responsible for picking up donated items throughout Northwest Vermont using a box truck. This includes following a schedule, communicating with donors, and using safe practices to move donations. The driver must be able to assess conditions of donations, quickly adapt to changes in the pickup schedule, and effectively communicate GMHFH’s mission to donors. No CDL needed!



Requirements

Department: Williston ReStore and on the truck, throughout Chittenden County, in-person

FLSA Status: Part Time Hourly, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Varies according to desired schedule and store needs

Reports To: Procurement Manager

Supervises: none


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Follow the schedule set by the dispatcher to pickup donations across Northwest Vermont. Communicate with the dispatcher to implement any changes to the pickup schedule.
  2. Greet customers and asses the condition of donations that are scheduled to be picked up. Approve or deny donations based on if they are in good, sellable condition.
  3. Impart GMHFH’s mission on donors and provide proper documentation for their donations.
  4. Provide direction to the Driver Associate or volunteers and answer any questions.
  5. Strictly follow set produces relating to safe vehicle operation, proper loading practices, and accident reporting.
  6. Assist in keeping trucks well maintained and clean, including transporting to service centers, and performing minor repairs as needed.

Secondary Responsibilities

  1. Attend community and GMHFH events and assist with set up.
  2. Once pickups are completed, assist with warehouse operations, including pricing donations received or moving product.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Desired Education and Experience

  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience driving a 20ft box truck or similar.
  • High school diploma preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Able to effectively communicate with donors and other truck staff.
  • Dependable and able to stick to a schedule.
  • Excellent customer service skills to respond to any questions or concerns.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to assign tasks to others.
  • Flexibility to switch to different tasks quickly.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize without supervision.
  • Able to drive defensively and safely throughout Vermont.

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job

Must be able to:

  • Sit for long periods in a truck, repeatedly exit and enter the truck, and quickly switch to moving heavy donations such as furniture.
  • Lift, pick up, carry, place down, and bring upstairs at least 50lbs.

Tools and Equipment to be Used

Must be able to:

  • Drive a 20ft box truck, answer a phone, use a weightlifting device such as a hand truck, write receipts for donors, use a utility knife to cut various materials such as cardboard, use load straps to secure heavy loads, use a pricing tool to price merchandise, and use GPS software to track truck position and plan routes to pickups.

Work Environment

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions in a variety of environments but will primarily be in a truck, outside donors’ houses, or inside donors’ houses. This position is exposed to a moderate amount of dust and moving vehicles including but not limited to cars, trucks, and forklifts.

Compensation & Benefits

The pay range for this part-time, in-person position is currently $17-$19, hourly. Benefits include a 20% staff discount.
