Description:. Curbside Groceries is striving to reach the goal of bringing affordable, healthy food to areas of Ward 8 and PG county that are experiencing transportation barriers and gaps in accessibility, in a model where product sales cover the costs of personnel, operating expenses and food. To achieve this goal, it is essential that the drivers are full, active members of the curbside team.

 

The Truck Driver operates company vehicles including a Grocery Truck, Company van or other company vehicles to make food deliveries into the community, to our partner agencies, pickup food donations from donors and follows all DOT and Safety Rules / Regulations. The Grocery truck driver will be responsible monitoring the physical and mechanical condition of vehicles to help maintain a safe and efficient truck fleet. The Grocery truck Driver will be an important part of a new project of the CAFB. This project’s unique quality is its ability to provide access to high-quality, affordable, healthy foods into neighborhoods with limited access to grocery stores. The driver will be an ambassador for the program and will need to excel in the area customer service and accountability.

Essential Functions

Transportation and Truck Maintenance – 45%

  • Drive company vehicle to transport food following all food safety regulations to and from the food bank, grocery stores to pre-determined distribution sites, agencies, from donors and other areas as assigned;
  • Routine checks of tire pressure, maintenance logs, and service records to ensure the truck is in optimal condition;
  • Regularly conduct preventative maintenance measures;
  • Sweep the interior and periodically get exterior washed;
  • Schedule routine maintenance in coordination with the Operations team;
  • Ensure the truck and inventory is secured at the end of every shift.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Department of Transportation rules and regulations for commercial driving.

Customer Service – 35%

  • Communicate knowledgeably with co- workers, donors and clients about the Capital Area Food Bank and associated situations;
  • Assist with special events and distributions of Capital Area Food Bank products;
  • Provides excellent Customer Service to all client accessing the Grocery Truck;
  • Work closely with the Grocery Truck Coordinator to service customers at all Grocery sites and monitor the food inventory to maintain an excellent program.
  • Displays excellence in customer service through embodying a welcoming and charismatic presence;
  • Help grow basket size by suggestive selling, i.e. “Many customers who purchase X also really enjoy Y”;
  • Work with Coordinator to improve relationships with site management and draw in new customers.

Daily Operations, Inventory Management, & Food Safety – 20%

  • Ensure truck is stocked with adequate supplies (I.e., menus, surveys, bags, etc.);
  • Supports the set up and breakdown of the market at each location;
  • Load and unload grocery items for safe food storage according to FIFO;
  • Conduct transactions, handling different payments;
  • Load/unload food products as needed and clean truck to maintain high standards for food safety;
  • Follow all food safety standard throughout the process of staging and distributing food to the customers;
  • Assist with the set up and any break down of equipment, food arrangements and tables at the Grocery distribution sites;
  • Restock products as needed to maintain required inventory levels and excellent produce quality;
  • Count and separate food donations by product type while unloading the company vehicle;
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, including client of the Capital Area Food Bank, either autonomously or in a team environment;
  • Assist with operations as needed, and direct by the Director of Social Business.

Miscellaneous

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Satisfactory safe driving record Ability to follow GPS or routing system to reach Grocery Truck;

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to operate forklift or pallet jack with a valid license

Other Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to grow a strong customer base through relationship-building;
  • Ability to go above and beyond customer expectations to create “Wow moments” (i.e. walking bags of groceries to someone’s door);

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or mov objects up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and
  • Occasionally lift and/or mov objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Drives in traffic, an throughout the community General food distribution center; contains moving forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Frequent exposure to changes in temperature conditions
  • Work hours will be determined by the need of the community the Grocery truck which may include evening and weekend hours.

Salary:

  • $48,800.00 - $52,500.00
