    SALARY: $31.56 Per Hour 

    POSITION SUMMARY:  Foodservice Truck Driver delivers meals and food to schools and sites as needed.  This position is responsible to drive safely on school grounds and on city streets in accordance with state and local law and district protocol. This position is responsible to represent the department in schools in a friendly and positive manner, and to work in a courteous and timely fashion.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.     • Load and deliver food transport units to schools or support sites on established time schedule
    • Operate truck lift gate and dock lift
    • Deliver and pick up any additional food, special meals, supplies or equipment as requested, including non-departmental supplies as requested
    • Verify school counts and ensure orders are complete
    • Comply with recording periodic time and temperature reports
    • Pick up carts and other items from the school kitchen and office to return with the food transport units to the Central Kitchen
    • Pick up supplies from warehouse or other locations, as required
    • Fuel and inspect food service truck daily/as needed.  Maintain internal and external cleanliness of vehicle.
    • Follow safety precautions on securing food-transporting units in truck to avoid accidents
    • Promptly prepare work orders on the mechanical needs or problems of the food service vehicle or its operating systems.  Promptly notify needs to Transportation and to Nutrition Services Office Manager
    • Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines
    • Assist with warehouse functions, receiving food and supplies, offloading vendor delivery trucks, moving product into freezers, refrigerators or dry storage as needed
    • Chain up truck in inclement weather
    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers
    • Communicate with staff and students as needed, for example: safety directions and order details
    • Maintain personal attire per department protocol

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    High school diploma or equivalent

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Possess a Washington State Driver’s License with Class B CDL with air brake endorsement
    Operate standard transmission vehicle
    Clean 5-year complete driving abstract.  Driving record must show no convictions for DUI, reckless driving, negligent driving, or hit and run.
    Consistent attendance and positive evaluations
     
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Five (5) years’ experience truck driving
    One (1) year of experience in foodservice operations
    Food Handler’s license
    Forklift certification
     
    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with Class B CDL with air brake endorsement
    Maintain an excellent driving record.  Driving record must show no convictions for DUI, reckless driving, negligent driving, or hit and run to maintain this position
    Forklift Certification, within 6 weeks of hire

    State of Washington and King County Department of Health Food Code
    Basic computer applications

    Operate truck lift gate and dock lift over 3,000lbs
    Maintain clean truck, and personal attire per department protocol.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    Position also requires sitting; standing; walking; bending, stooping, squatting, driving; carrying; lifting; hearing; speaking; writing; and keyboarding.  Lift and handle up to 40 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.  Push and pull carts weighing up to 400lbs frequently and up to 600lbs occasionally. 
     
    WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    Position requires working in low temperature environments such as large warehouse freezer and refrigerators, reach-in or roll-in freezer and refrigerator.  Work with food and/or liquids that are frozen or very hot.  Drivers are exposed to inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, traffic noise and possible exposure to gasoline and diesel fumes.  The employee is required to maneuver self, carts and food/supplies within constrained kitchen environment with heavy equipment, tables and carts.  Drivers must concentrate on safely operating vehicle under all weather and road conditions.  Work is done on an elevated work station such as lift gate. Expect to deal with the occasional exposure to angry, frustrated, or aggressive individuals. 
     
    WORK SCHEDULE

    This position typically works, Monday through Friday, on school days with some summer opportunities. Shifts may range from fifteen (15) minutes to seven (7) hours.  Work schedules typically involve daytime activities surrounding meal operations, on all days that school is in session.  May work several days prior to and after school year, or in summer on occasional days when single schools are in session or offering summer programs.

     
    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
    Position reports to and is evaluated by the Director of Nutrition Services or designee.

    This is a non-represented position.
     
    LEVEL OF COMPENSATION
    $31.56 Per Hour
