This position will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of goods to our customer, store, and quarry locations locally. Drivers will be tasked with driving and maintaining trucks that will be assigned to them, as well as working closely with our team of dispatchers who are planning routes and tracking deliveries. A Class A CDL license is required for the state in which you operate. Successful candidates must have a clean driving record and must pass a DOT mandated drug, alcohol test, and physical.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

GENERAL:

  • Adhere to the company’s dress code at all times
  • Adhere to the company’s attendance policy at all times

TRUCK MAINTENANCE:

  • Perform daily inspections on vehicles such as checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires, pre-trip and post-trip duties and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order
  • Complete and file all daily truck logs including electronic documents in a precise and timely manner
  • Oversee the loading & unloading of trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary; then verifying contents against shipping invoices or inventories to ensure it is complete and accurate
  • Secure equipment for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, straps, or covers

DELIVERIES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes
  • Ability to read route sheets and service each customer on route or assigned by the dispatcher
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption
  • Responsible for customer satisfaction including on-time delivery of undamaged goods
  • Be prompt and courteous to the customer, co-workers, and everyone they interact with
  • Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador in every interaction with customers and the public
  • Maintain daily contact with supervisor or dispatcher to receive delivery or pickup instructions

SAFETY:

  • Follow appropriate safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Obey all traffic laws, including but not limited to driving within posted speed limits, stopping and looking for traffic at all stop signs;
  • Report defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the tractor and/or trailer
  • Safely and efficiently drive trucks with capacities up to 80,000 lbs. gross weight, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products, or other equipment
  • Operate equipment, such as CB radios, Tablets, and telephones, to exchange necessary information with dispatcher, manager, or other drivers
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage
  • Follow accident protocol as outlined by safety team including reporting incidents to supervisor
  • Comply with all DOT and Company regulations and rules
  • Observe OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to retain active commercial driver license
  • Proven safe and responsible driving record with no serious tickets or accidents in last 5 years and no DWI/DUI in last 10 years
  • Consistent work history
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and DOT drug and alcohol screens
  • Subject to random DOT drug and alcohol screens
  • Able to successfully pass the DOT physical examination
  • Experience with hauling bulk dirt, sand, rocks, mulch, and landscape material a plus
  • Prefer candidates with proficient oral and written communication skills, technical skills, and functional skills
  • Basic mechanical skills to perform regular vehicle inspections
  • High school diploma or GED

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Exposure to outside weather, including frequent hot and cold conditions, as well as exposure to fumes, vibration, and airborne particles. Noise level is usually moderate
  • Typical schedule is Monday-Friday, with rotating Saturday and Sunday as needed, 40-55 hour work week
  • Requires the employee to sit, climb, bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • This position does not require over the road travel
