Wieland is hiring a Spotter Driver. The Spotter Driver will be responsible for moving/spotting vans and containers between two facilities less than one mile apart. This includes transporting materials to and from specified destinations on public streets or highways. Drive diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver products or materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form.

 

Shift are set five days per week, Monday through Friday with a typical shift starting at 6am. Overtime is paid over 40 hours per week. Our Spotter / Drivers work as a solo driver with all routes local to the site. The drivers are home daily with no overnight travel. This work is performed in all types of weather. This role is located in Granite City, IL and will be fully on-site. 

 

Starting Pay:  $25 per hour

 

 









Responsibilities






Spotter Driver Responsibilities:

  • Transfer 53-foot vans and containers between two facilities with ability to move, organize and park trailers in the dock area and navigate safely in a congested yard.
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues with correct documentation.
  • Comply with DOT rules and regulations as well as with company policies and procedures.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
  • Collect and verify delivery instructions.
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations.
  • Ability to ensure trailers are locked out and chocked before loading/unloading.
  • Maintains driver log according to DOT regulations.
  • Maintains contact with supervisor, dispatcher, scale house operator to receive work instructions.
  • Work in a timely, safe, and responsible manner to meet customer or company requirements.

 

Spotter Driver Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 22 years old, have a minimum of 1 year of experience and possess a valid Class A CDL license.
  • Clean driving record. Not Cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous three years.
  • Ability to pass the DOT physical and drug screen.
  • Have knowledge of and compliance with company policy and all federal, state, local laws and regulations governing the operation of company equipment.
  • Good communication skills; conveys information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; adjusts communication to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as BOL’s, Freight logs and intermodal trans documents, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use a digital camera and upload pictures according to company standards.
  • Adapts to change quickly and easily and performs effectively during times of change; demonstrates the ability to multi-task and manages competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
  • Be a safety champion by promoting a safe and productive workplace through your own actions, including the proper use of PPE, safe operation of powered equipment and safe lifting techniques as determined by the role.
