Summary of Responsibilities: The Food Program Driver is accountable for picking up food from donors and delivering it to the organizations served by Forgotten Harvest in the tri-county area. The driver is responsible for keeping accurate food pick-up, delivery and inventory records, making sure that product picked up meets the standards of Forgotten Harvest and that food delivered is packaged and handled appropriately. Driver is also responsible for keeping his truck clean and functioning properly. This is a touch freight position. The position requires lifting of 60 lbs repeatedly throughout the day approximately 3,500 -6,500 lbs per day. Home Daily, no overnights.
Duties/Essential Functions:
- Uphold Mission, Vision and Values of Forgotten Harvest
- Attend all required meetings
- Pre-trip and Post Trip Vehicle Inspections as required by FMCSR 396.11.
- Ensures Cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured.
- Operate the commercial motor vehicle safely and legally.
- Stays knowledgeable and complies with all related DOT regulations.
- Use MHE safely and properly. (Pallet Jacks, carts and 2-wheelers)
- Pick up food from donating organizations
- Maintaining good relationships with donors and receiving agencies
- Keep accurate and legible records of food delivered and dispersed
- Follows established guidelines regarding the check in and check out procedures.
- Communicates with Transportation Department as required.
- Reports all accidents and incidents immediately to Management.
- Is responsible to keep all assigned equipment stays in good working order.
- Is responsible to fuel vehicles as needed.
- Responsible for ensuring that food donated is appropriate and meets health department regulations
- Daily truck Inspection for Pest & Sanitation
- Ensure that safe and sanitary food handling practices are strictly adhered to
- Participates in staff meetings and special events.
- Maintain professional appearance at all times while engaged in Forgotten Harvest mission.
- Perform other duties assigned
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
- Basic math and reading skills.
- CDL Class A or B with air brakes license required, Chauffer may also be accepted
- 1 or more years’ of driving a box truck or larger.
- DOT physical exam
- Must be able to work in all Transportation environments, including adverse weather conditions, tight parking lots, and traffic.
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as per FMCSR regulations.
- Excellent customer relations skills
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving practices
- Forklift experience a plus
- Excellent driving record
- Understanding of vehicle care and maintenance
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Must have valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record as determined by FH insurance company.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive up to 11 hours per day
- Ability to carry, sort and stock food.
- Ability to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb 6-12 hours per day
- Ability to lift 60 pounds repeatedly
- Must be able to endure various weather conditions
- Must maintain physical ability to drive by DOT legal standards
